Laser Technology
The NALI Applications Laboratory at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (CCAT) assists in and accelerates the commercialization of state-of-the-art and next-generation laser processing technology to the domestic aerospace supply chain to produce higher quality, cost effective, timely and revolutionary manufacturing solutions.
CCAT employs the Laser Applications Laboratory in order to exploit regional strengths in lasers and photonics and to address needs of regional high-tech companies for next-generation manufacturing technology. CCAT investigators partner with regional educational institutions to develop curricula covering laser applications, giving students hands-on experience with state-of-the-art laser equipment and laser processes. CCAT works with regional manufacturers (both OEMs and second-tier suppliers) to evaluate potential laser processes for specific manufacturing applications.
Laser Applications
CCAT investigators conduct research in laser applications. Emphasis is on exploiting the capabilities of next-generation industrial lasers in order to advance the state-of-the-art in laser materials processing. Their main goals are to establish a university-based activity that supports and enhances laser applications; to develop a basis for application of lasers to critical processes in advanced propulsion and power systems' manufacture, overhaul and repair; and to implement a basis for revolutionary improvements in hole drilling for gas turbine engines.
