Mission
NALI promotes innovation and integrating new technologies throughout the aerospace supply chain to ensure that the U.S. aerospace industry retains its competitive advantage. Our industrial and academic teams are addressing U.S. Air Force needs in propulsion and power systems development, and manufacturing.
Initial tasks focus on the following areas:
- Enhance modeling and simulation to advance technology and effectiveness of supply chain.
-
- Creation of the Advanced Virtual Engine Test Cell to revolutionize design, testing, and analysis of gas turbine engines
- Advanced 3-D process modeling to reduce the cost of machining and predict effects on performance
- Factory operations modeling to create lean, low-cost operations virtually prior to placement on the factory floor
- Stimulate student interest and strengthen learning
-
- Activities for K-12, community colleges and undergraduate colleges focused on engineering and manufacturing
- Assure that the workforce is capable of implementing the technologies being transitioned by NALI
- Transition next generation manufacturing technologies
-
- Use of advanced laser technology to manufacture aerospace components, including gas turbines and fuel cells
- Activities in nanotechnology and surface engineering
- Strengthening total supply chain enterprise effectiveness
-
- Achieving world-class competitiveness by improving product quality, productivity and cost effectiveness
